情報連携学部のFahim Khan准教授が2021年11月にIEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) のシニアメンバーに昇格しました。IEEE（ニューヨークに本社）は、人類の利益のために技術を進歩させることに専念する世界最大の技術専門家組織です。 IEEEとそのメンバーは、引用の多い出版物、技術基準、専門的および教育的活動を通じて、より良い未来のために革新するようにグローバルコミュニティを鼓舞しています。IEEEは、世界中のエンジニアリング、コンピューティング、およびテクノロジー情報の信頼できる「声」です。
シニアメンバーグレードは、IEEEのメンバーシップのエリートステータスであり、技術的および専門的な卓越性に対する国際的な認識を表しています。IEEEの全会員数は40万人以上ですが、Senior Memberはその内の約8%となります。IEEEによると、このグレードへの昇格には、「豊富な経験」(extensive experience) が必要であり、「専門家としての成熟度」(professional maturity)と「文書化された重要な成果(documented achievements of significance) を反映しています。
IEEEは、新しく昇格した各シニアメンバーに、ブロンズの彫刻が施された優雅な木製の銘板 (plaque) を贈呈します。 また、IEEE東京支部は、Khan先生の昇格を認めて「IEEEジャパンメダル」を授与しました。その銅メダルの表面の肖像は、日本における電気技術の先覚者、平賀源内先生。裏面の文様は平賀源内先生ご発明のエレキテルを模したもので、中の文字として「平賀源内」と平賀源内先生の雅号「風来山人」を造幣局の特殊技術である潜像で彫り込んであります。
以前、Khan先生は、コンピュータサイエンスの次世代リーダーを育成するイニシアチブである ACM Future of Computing Academy のメンバーとして世界的に選ばれました。
Dr. Khan Elevated to IEEE Senior Member
Dr. Khan, an associate professor at the Faculty of Information Networking for Innovation and Design (INIAD), has been elevated to the grade of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Senior Member in November 2021. Headquartered in New York, IEEE is the world’s largest technical professional organization dedicated to advancing technology for the benefit of humanity. The institute and its members inspire a global community to innovate for a better tomorrow through highly cited publications, conferences, technology standards, and professional and educational activities. IEEE is the trusted “voice” for engineering, computing, and technology information around the globe.
The Senior Member grade is an elite status of membership in the IEEE, representing international recognition for technical and professional excellence. Only about 8% of IEEE’s over 400,000 members from more than 160 countries hold this prestigious status, which, according to IEEE, “requires extensive experience, and reflects professional maturity and documented achievements of significance”.

IEEE presents each newly elevated senior member with an elegant wooden plaque with bronze engraving. Besides, the IEEE Tokyo Section awarded the “IEEE Japan Medal” to Dr. Khan in recognition of his elevation. The front surface of the magnificent bronze medal displays the engraved portrait of prominent polymath Hiraga Gennai (1729-1780), a pioneer of electrical technology in Japan. The pattern on the back surface of the medal imitates the “Erekiteru” (electrostatic generator), for the invention of which Hiraga Gennai is most well-known.
It is worth mentioning that previously Dr. Khan was globally selected as a member of the ACM Future of Computing Academy, an initiative to foster the next generation of computing leaders.
