2024年11月23日に神奈川工科大学で開催された第21回IEEE Transdisciplinary-Oriented Workshop for Emerging Researchers (IEEE TOWERS) で、Yadanar Linさんは「Athena：AI Programming Mentor」と題したポスター発表を行い、全国の大学から約70名の発表者の中から最も評価の高い発表者に贈られるTOWERS Best Award賞を受賞しました。学習と創造的思考を促進する教育学に基づき、Linさんはオープンソースの大規模言語モデル（LLM）と検索拡張生成（RAG）を活用したマルチモーダル AI プログラミング チューターである Athenaというシステム を開発しました。Athenaの有効性は、実際のプログラミング学生を対象としたユーザースタディを通じて実証されました。LinさんはINIADのKhan研究室の学部4年生です。
IEEE（アイ・トリプル・イー）とは、米国に本部を持つ電気・電子技術に関する世界最大の学会です。毎年開催される IEEE TOWERS は、IEEE 東京⽀部、IEEE Tokyo Young Professionals Affinity Group、IEEE Tokyo/Shin-Etsu Women in Engineering Affinity Group、IEEE TOWERS 後援会の支援を受けています。IEEE TOWERS は、産業界と学界の若手研究者が活発なグループ ディスカッションやパネル ディスカッション、プレゼンテーション セッションを通じて交流できるフォーラムです。IEEE TOWERS は、工学のさまざまな分野の研究者を結び付け、ディスカッションを促進するために、分野横断的な交流を重視しています。
賞は、TOWERS Best Award（最優秀賞）、Outstanding Poster Presentation Award（優秀ポスター プレゼンテーション賞）、Undergraduate Student Award（学部生賞）の 3 つのカテゴリーで授与されました。受賞者は、①該当研究分野へのインパクト、または社会的な影響⼒・実現性、②論理性、③発表のわかりやすさ、④熱意の 4 つの基準に沿って採点され、審査員の投票によって選ばれました。Linさんは、TOWERS Best Award (トップカテゴリー) を受賞しました。賞には、賞状、賞金 3万円、1年間の IEEE学生会員権が含まれます。

At the 21st IEEE Transdisciplinary-Oriented Workshop for Emerging Researchers (IEEE TOWERS) held at Kanagawa Institute of Technology on November 23, 2024, Yadanar Lin gave a poster presentation titled “Athena: AI Programming Mentor” and won the TOWERS Best Award, which is awarded to the most highly rated presenter out of approximately 70 presenters from universities across Japan. Based on pedagogical principles that facilitate learning and creative thinking, Lin developed Athena, a multimodal AI programming tutor leveraging an open-source LLM and retrieval augmented generation (RAG). The effectiveness of Athena was demonstrated through a user study with actual programming students. Lin is a 4th year undergraduate student from the Khan laboratory at INIAD.
Headquartered in the United States, IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) is the world’s largest academic society related to electrical and electronic technology. Organized annually, IEEE TOWERS is supported by IEEE Tokyo Section, IEEE Tokyo Young Professionals Affinity Group, IEEE Tokyo/Shin-Etsu Women in Engineering Affinity Group and IEEE TOWERS Supporter’s Group. IEEE TOWERS is a forum for young researchers from industry and academia where they can interact through active group and panel discussions, and presentation sessions. IEEE TOWERS prioritizes cross-disciplinary exchanges to connect researchers from different domains of engineering and facilitate discussions.
Awards were given in three categories: TOWERS Best Award, Outstanding Poster Presentation Award, and Undergraduate Student Award. Winners of the awards were selected by reviewers’ votes based on the criteria of significance and potential impact of research, logicality, clarity of presentation, and enthusiasm of the presenter. Lin won the TOWERS Best Award (top category). The award includes a certificate, a cash prize of 30,000 JPY and IEEE student membership for one year.
